Rest Week, Shaved Head, Kayden TCH & Trip to Emergency

October 4, 2024 Cycle 2 Rest Week

This week Kayden was at Texas Children’s for her EMU study and SPECT scan.  She had to be there at 7 am Monday morning so we decided to go the night before to avoid having to have to leave in the wee morning hours for the drive.  Ken stayed with her, we thought that was best so that I would have time to rest after treatments.

I have had some severe scalp side effects that have caused an extremely sensitive, itchy scalp with some sores and thinning of my hair.  I chose to shave my hair off to offer me some relief and it helped tremendously.  I decided last minute to do it before Ken & Kayden left for Kayden’s week long EMU study stay at Texas Children’s Hospital. Our sweet friend Maria came over to help.  Her and Ken got to work on my hair.  It made such a difference for me, it was hard to see my hair go but the relief on my scalp was worth it.

After we finished with my hair, Ken, Kayden and I headed out to Houston.  When we arrived we settled in and had dinner, then it was off to bed for an early wake up to be at TCH by 7 am to get Kayden admitted. You can read about her EMU week here.

Ciara came later that afternoon to get me to take me back home.  We got home about 9 pm and headed straight for bed. I was pretty exhausted from a long day. Ciara left the following afternoon as she had work and I headed to my shoppe to do what I could for the remainder of the afternoon.

I had been feeling pretty good the remainder of the week until Thursday.  On my drive home from the shoppe that evening I had to pull over due to severe pain in my right side.  It had me in tears, I phoned my sweet friend who I had just left from the shoppe and she came to my rescue.  Drove me to my PCP here in town and he thought it best I head to MDA emergency in Houston. Maria drove me there and we arrived about 9 pm.  They took me in right away. got me ready for a CT scan and off I went. We were there a few hours at this point and the emergency doctor came in to go over my CT results.  The news was disappointing.  No change at all in my tumor, STABLE were his words.  My platelets at this time were also dropping as well as anemia.  Which explains a lot of my fatigue feeling.  The pain likely just from the tumor reacting to the treatments.  They sent me home to follow up with my oncologist the next day.  We got back to my house about 5 am and crashed until about 11 am.  Maria headed home and I tried to continue to rest and get my things ready for my 4 days at MDA beginning in 2 days.

I was also supposed to have my half way CT scan on Saturday but since I just had the emergency scan there was no need to do another.

Saturday was here and Maria picked me up early and we headed to TCH to get Kayden as she was being discharged today.  Ken and I stayed at the medical center as I had to be at MDA at 7 am for my biopsy and then treatment the following day. Kayden would be staying with Maria for a few days while we were at MDA.
